What we do:

The Vietnam Veterans Federation of Australia is dedicated to the welfare of ALL veterans and their families. We have no other aim. If you are a sick veteran, and you suspect your sickness may have been caused by your war service, we invite you to consult one of our trained volunteers who man our branches and sub-branches throughout all States of Australia.

Click here to see a list of all our branches now.

Our success, and acknowledged professional service to the veteran community, has seen more and more veterans from all theatres of war, hazardous service, and peace-keeping roles, as well as, both currently serving and ex-services men and women, seeking our assistance. We make no distinction nor discriminate, and welcome all who feel that their service to their country has in some way affected their health and well being. Such is our success that the Returned and Services League often refer veterans to us when their own resources for welfare assistance has become untenable.

We will advise what benefits you may be eligible to receive and help you apply for them. In this process we may refer you to medical specialists, legal specialists and counselling. We may also be able to assist your family to understand your condition. If your application for Repatriation benefits is rejected, we can prepare an appeal for you and represent you at the appeal hearing.

There is, of course, no fee charged for these services. Our trained veteran volunteers have all been helped by the Federation and in turn wish to help their veteran mates. The Vietnam Veterans Federation of Australia represents the interests of veterans, particularly those suffering illness because of their war service, to the Government and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

And there are many benefits hard won by veterans which are frequently under overt or covert attack from the bean counters in both government and the Department. The Vietnam Veterans Federation of Australia publishes a quarterly magazine titled The Vietnam Veteran Newsletter. The magazine airs veterans' issues particularly exposing the overt and covert attacks frequently made by both, the Government of the day, and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, on veterans' rights and benefits. To get your Newsletter delivered each quarter, FREE, why not join our Organisation.

After many many years, our fight to prove the effects of "AGENT ORANGE", and other chemicals, on Vietnam Veterans and the children of vietnam veterans has almost been won. Government Health Studies, in any survey carried out, have for years shown that children of Vietnam Veterans' suffer from serious birth defects, far far above the national averages for children of the larger community.

The suicide rates of Vietnam veterans and their children, are also far and away above the national averages. This has led to a concerted effort, through all veteran communities, to secure government funded resources in this area. In August 2001 a giant step was taken to aid the children of Vietnam Veterans, with the announcement by this organisation, in partnership with the VVAA, RSL, and DVA, of the "Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training", (ASIST), project. For current details about this project, CLICK HERE.

So, you see, we do not sit back on our laurels once a target has been reached. We continue to fight for your rights as a returned veteran. We continue to pursue, to the ultimate, your rights to appeal unjust determinations. And, we boast an extrordinary percentage of success that continues to indicate the lenghts some will go to, to deny what is yours by right.

CONFUSED ?

Confused about this organisation and other Vietnam Veterans associations ?

The best explanation is that we are the VIETNAM VETERANS FEDERATION of AUSTRALIA INC. We have branches in all States of Australia and the ACT. Our New South Wales branch, located at Granville, is also the Federations Head Office, and we were incorporated as the VIETNAM VETERANS ASSOCIATION of AUSTRALIA NEW SOUTH WALES BRANCH (Inc.)
and since 2007 now known as Vietnam Veterans Peacekeepers and Peacemakers Association of Australia NSW Branch Inc.

We have no affiliation with the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia incorporated in Victoria. The St. Mary's Outpost is not part of our federation. Several years ago we dissafiliated from this body and formed our own FEDERATION, and we were joined shortly thereafter by other States unhappy with the National Council of the VVAA.
